When we ride a bike and as soon as we start increasing speed, engine starts making more noise and fuel consumption increases. Why? To cope up with the increased speed, engine has to work harder and more fuel is consumed.
Similar is the case with human body. Our body generates energy by the process of respiration in which glucose (food) is burned with the help of oxygen with generation of energy. When we run, energy is being consumed at a faster rate. To burn more food, more oxygen is required. Hence breathing increases as we run, to make more oxygen available for body.
